    Customer Reviews:
    BOYYYYYY!!!!!…….is this a cool movie!
Phantasm is a late ’70s supernatural fantasy horror movie that does a great job of combining atmosphere, creepy nightmares, flying sphere-violence, location, characters, events and scares into one great, big bundle of nightmarish joy.

As an artist with a love of all things odd, unusual, beautiful, surreal, spooky and fun, this movie delivers all that and a bag of evil chips from another dimension.

Let me describe the highlights and joys of this movie:

    The creepy, old cemetery setting.

The mystical, surreal hallways under the morgue.

The flying spheres with daggers at the end that contributed a great gore scene.

The almost stereotypical ’70s fellas, with their collar-length hair, leather jackets and love of rock.

The evil midgets that chase you and spew yellow vomit.

The terrifying Tall Man that loves screaming, “Boyyyyy!!!!!”.

The fact that the movie has the guts to add in a room with a doorway to a parallel universe halfway through.

Well, that’s saying a lot right there, but I won’t give away anything else of the movie. Phantasm has gone on to become a cult favorite of movie lovers everywhere, and if you haven’t seen it but wanna watch something cool, scary and unusual, I wholeheartedly recommend this gem. Thanks for the time, and peace.

5-Star Independent Classic Horror. See it, it’s good for ya.
Don Coscarelli’s intensely dreamlike “Phantasm” is a very original and startling horror film from the late 70’s. A lot of horror classics were produced in the 70’s, but this one in particular stands out because it is the only one that does not hearken back in some way to earlier established archetypes. All the details are more or less original, so you are not looking at a retread of the conventional Frankenstein/Dracula/Zombie stories. The main baddie is an exceptionally tall undertaker from another planet, for starters. His dwarf slaves are essentially zombies (reanimated dead people he has crushed “down to half size”) but in their behavior and appearance do not really resemble zombies from other myths. This is a movie trying to be as different as possible.

All the strange elements and images here add up to a high-octane creepy sense of the bizarre that, in my opinion, has never quite been matched. But if you find yourself chuckling at the absurdities here and there–or just straight-up laughing–that’s no accident. There are some very funny moments (”Yahhhhh!! My FOOT, man!”), and these tend to hone the fine edge of the film’s unpredictability.

In the opening scenes, we see that spooky shenanigans are going on over at that Morningside Mortuary, including murder, appearances of strange hooded dwarf creatures, and kid-hero Mike (Michael Baldwin) riding his motorcycle around in the cemetery, apparently for kicks. After just a few minutes have elapsed, “Phantasm” is already a tapestry of weirdness, and it generally gets stranger, scarier and funnier as it goes along. The youthful hero Mike, in order to save his older brother and their friend Reggie from the eerie monsters invading their home town, is ready to jump into the action and fight. Will the Tall Man, with his hordes of undead minions, be conquered? With a villain this strange and this powerful, their valiant, 70’s-macho efforts may not be enough.

Not surprising that it was a big theatrical hit when it came out originally. It was totally unlike any other movie, and audiences could see clearly that this low-budget oddity was bending over backwards to deliver its roller-coaster-style entertainment.

Excellent on DVD with its stereo-surround remix and special features. This movie has had a number of sequels–all of which are interesting and worth a look. But the original first film establishes the ambiguous myth in a pure, inspired way, and is the most perfect of the series.

    Peew!
I saw this movie when I was 15 or 16 in 1979 and it scared me to pieces. It scared me so bad that I made the guy who took me to this movie stay on the phone with me all night after he dropped me off at home. I woke to the sound of his snoring on the other end. I couldn’t look at, let alone buy, a full length mirror for years. But seeing it again in 2008…wow, what a bad film! Maybe I’ve gotten jaded by today’s horror films because the effects in this one are horrible. It’s good for the nostalgia and camp: a movie to watch with your friends, drink a few beers, while each and every one of you proclaim that even you can act better than the actors in this movie.

    Difference between horror and horrible?
    Is this movie.

It’s not often I give a horror movie 4 stars, but this one has a likability and freshness that makes it watchable.

Unlike other horror films(i.e. Jeepers Creepers)this one is genuinely not stupid or cliche.

For what it is,I have no major dislikes.

    this movie rocks
I like so much the atmosphere of this movie. It is not a movie for everybody because it is movie weird movie. But if you are open, you will enjoy this movie I tell you!!

    Customer Reviews:
    No Accessory Option
I bought this for the Sony Brand, color Pink and thin sleek size. I rated this a 3 only because it is Sony. Overall this is a great MP3 player quality wise. One of the biggest disappointments is the lack of accessory options that allow you to grow with your player. iPOD has cornered that market. I would love for Sony to have speaker options to turn your player into a portable stereo. Although you can plug your PC speakers into the MP3 but cannot take it out. I would love Sony to have car accessories that allow you to take your MP3 on the road.

I am not impressed with the Walkman name or software that allows you to transfer books or music to the MP3. It is difficult to organize items or folders. Another feature that I absolutely get frustrated with is you don’t seem to have the ability to download what you want, it downloads out of your control, everything on your PC. If you add new items, often times I’m seeing double entries. I really think the Walkman Software is below Sony’s quality. Not IMPRESSED at all.

    so far so good
I just got my Sony 8GB Walkman yesterday, and I have to say I like it very much.

    Pros:

    1) Sound Quality

    2) Looks

    3) After the initial charge, it’s Plug and Play

    4) Really easy to Sync with Windows Media Player 11 - I didn’t have to install anything to sync, it was already on my computer. I’m glad because I’ve read several reviews where people complained about installing and uninstalling software the player came with, just because it didn’t work.

    Cons:

    1) I don’t like the headphones too much, they are a little too big, but that’s not a huge problem as I can always replace it.

    2) I also haven’t figure out how to get the battery display working. If someone can give me a hint I’d appreciate it.

    3) I would also like more if there was some relevant information displayed on the player during the initial charge. It didn’t say if it’s charging, and how much more it has to charge, and it didn’t say that it’s over, after 3.5 hours of charging. Maybe I had a problem because I can’t get the battery level to display. How do I do this?

Now it is my favorite player
I have been fed up with the second generation of iPOD Video and Kenwood HD30GB9 (an expensive Japanese player which is not sold in the US) before this one came into my eyes. Sony have made lots of excellent players in the past, and the A series video players are the best they provide right now. The 8G/16G flash memory within such slim and delicate artwork is enough to keep all the collection I have, given that I’m a pure audiophile using this player only for music. The software is very easy to use and fully compatible with PC (Sure, because it’s Windows Media Player), which contains one most important function missing in iTunes - library update. With regard to sound quality, neither of my previous players is a match in replaying Jpop. The vivid vocal, real and tight bass, and wide headroom make a superb listening experience every day. Now it is my favorite player that I would love to take with me all day long.

    not compatible
I’m sure this would be a fantastic player if it were compatible with Audible downloads, and the software could actually import all the files I had already put into my itunes library. I hate working with media player 11 and how ugly it really is in comparison to apples presentation and options for importing and loading itunes is oustanding in this regard because it is constantly updated, and FREE. (which is my favorite kind) So, spend the extra cash and invest in a compatible player with something from mac. I now have the 8G nano, and love it and its simplicity of use.

    Almost Perfect…
Sony 8 GB Walkman Video MP3 Player (Black)

This thing’s almost perfect. The sound quality, in a word, is breathtaking. Between the unit itself and the supplied IEM/earbuds (which look suspiciously like the mdr-ex85lp’s sold here on Amazon), I’m hearing instruments I never heard before in my music. Wish it had fm radio and on-the-fly playlisting (even an “add to now playing” feature would be nice), but you can create playlists via PC,and fm tuners are usually a bust on mp3 players, so I would, if the option were available, give it 4.5 stars.

Freeware app WM Converter handles video converting for this unit just fine, WMP 11 will provide album artwork, playlists and tags, and I imagine Juice or direct download from the web will provide good podcast support, and if you must have subscription-to-go music, Rhapsody (BestBuy Digital Music Store) or Napster should work great, considering there’s no expandable storage options to confuse things. If you want to spend a lot of time sitting around wondering “what’s happening now,” go ahead and install Media Manger for Walkman. It seems to be waste of programming, to me.

    Bottom line: Solid-as-a-rock, no-frills, portable A/V.
