    One of Jung’s greatest achievements
His genius lies in his blend of deep intuitive thinking and strict scientific empiricism. Jung’s contributions are still slowly trickling down into the collective understanding of modern culture. One of Jung’s greatest achievements has been his ability to produce a new vocabulary for modern man to deal with the processes that occur where the personal psyche meets objective reality.

    Reflections of Jung
“Memories, Dreams, Reflections” is the most insightful autobiography of Carl G. Jung’s life and his humble experiences. I have read his other works, including Man and His Symbols and Dreams, and never fully understand them until I read this last book of his to which brings it all together in terms of his scientific approach. This 400-page book is a window into his inner world, and it is such a remarkable read.

In this book, Jung revealed much wisdom and insights from his early years up to his remainder of his life. One even can learn about oneself from his life. It is very much worth reading. It is both fascinating and inspiring.

My favorite line of Jung from this book:

“As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.”

Valuable linsight into Jung’s inner life
    Wow!

I’ve always admired Carl Gustav Jung, and this book, a biography of his inner life, has helped me to understand him much better. It was fascinating to read about his boyhood, his adolescence, his days as a student, his time as a doctor (most all of his adult life) and his travels. And the best part was the insights he shared about his inner life.

Perhaps the biggest surprise in reading this book was the extent to which I identified with him. As a child I had a rich imagination and sometimes thought that I was some kind of an odd-wad. And like Jung, not only did I have trouble with algebra when I was in junior high, I also, like Jung, had thought it was a plot! It was nice to find out that a highly intelligent person like Jung had experienced many just-like-it-only-different events as I had.

The biggest thing I appreciate about Carl Jung is his attitude towards the individual. I think he has one of the best treatments of individualism that I’ve read. The “individuating” process he outlines will make us better members of the community. Like Jung, I have always felt that the community is only as healthy as the individuals in it.

I continue to learn about his approach to dreams and to learn new insights from this book. It’s very much worth reading.

    He was so self-absorbed
As much as I would have liked to learn about Jung’s life I just couldn’ finish this book. Jung comes across as so incredibly self-absorbed - it’s only me, I, me, I and me again. He writes hundreds of pages about his most detailed inner experiences, yet there is not a single word about his relationship to his wife, children and mistresses. If I hadn’t known that he was married with five children I would have assumed he was a complete hermit. Loving relationships seem to have meant nothing to this man. I honestly wonder how he could have been a good therapist. I also wonder why so many women have followed his teachings when quite obviously he held them in such low regard. I only hope that the reality was better than this book makes him out to be.

Intensity-his mind was flooded with profound ideas
This book is sublime, a GEM. In his subjective view of the world -”with half closed eyes and somewhat closed ears, to see and hear the form and voice of being” he arrived at an inspiring insight about life: supreme meaning of being can consist only in the fact that is,not that it is not or is no longer; nature, the mystery of love, the psyche, life, human beings, a state of lively contemplation of images is divinity unfolded (the greatest of miracles)-being conscious of this can come to you not through emptiness, imagelessneess or wanting to be freed from nature or yourself.

Here’s a passage of the book that reflects the quintessence of his wisdom:

No language is adequate for this paradox. Whatever one can say, no words reflect the whole; for only the whole is meaningful…love “bears all things” and “endures all things”. These words say all there is to be said; nothing can be added to them. For we are in the deepest sense the victims and the instruments of cosmogonic “love”- a unified and undivided whole. Being a part man cannot grasp the whole. He is at its mercy. He may assent to it, or rebel against it; but he is always caught by it and enclosed within it. He is dependent upon it and is sustained by it. Love is his light and his darkness, whose end he cannot see. “Love ceases not”-whether he speaks with the “tongue of angels”, or with scientific exactitude traces the life cell down to its uttermost source. Man can try to name love, showering upon it all the names at his command, and still he will involve himself in endless self-deceptions. If he possesses a grain of wisdom, he will lay down his arms and name the unknown by the more unknown- ignotum per ignotius-that is, by God. That is a confession of his subjection, his imperfection, and his dependence; but at the same time a testimony to his freedom to choose between truth and error.

If we understand and feel that here in this life we already have a link with the infinite, desires and attitudes change.

    A Dose of Reality
Palestine puts a very human face on the ongoing tragedy of the people living in their own country, specifically those areas that have not been claimed by Israel. It’s not about who’s right or wrong, it’s about how to deal with the challenge of simply living under very difficult, often fatal, circumstances. There’s a sad parallel with the situation faced by native Americans, where even self-imposed exile failed to accommodate the intrusive settlements.

Tells a seldom told side of the story
Joe Sacco, as usual, brings an almost documentary style of storytelling to his real-life description of the hardships faced by Palestinians in the Occupied Territories. I think his efforts should be recognized as a public service, as the point of view of the Palestinians is a seldom shown and unpopular view. Nonetheless, in today’s climate, it is important to remember that the vast majority of Palestinians have dreams, lives, and difficulties that aren’t represented by the stereotypical suicide bomber’s farewell video.

I don’t pretend to represent that this one perspective is the only book you should read to fully understand the complex realities, plural, of the Middle East. The tale is told with a certain point of view. However, every story has a point of view, whether explicit or implicit. Joe Sacco merely makes his explicit.

In addition to being an important story, it is also well told. As mere entertainment or as education, “Palestine” is an important and fascinating work.

    Accurate and Heart-Rending Portrayal
Joe Sacco lived in Palestine for 2 months, living and conversing with Palestinians about the horrors of Israeli occupation. He shows visually what Human Rights reports can only give in statistics: the shame and inhumanity of arbitrary checkpoints, the immense grief of losing a son or daughter to blatant Israelis aggression and Chauvinism, the deadening effect of a life fully controlled by a racist occupying force in one’s own country, and the stoic resolve with which innocent Palestinians (women, children, men) are tortured by Israeli Shin Bet.

Israeli apologists and closet bigots will ironically (and predictably) call this book “propaganda” and “lies”. Unfortunately for them, truth does not conform to the subjective imaginings of a flawed and hypocritical ideology. Zionism is founded on the exploitation and suffering of the Palestinians, and no amount of prevarication, sophistry, and lies can change this fact.

Sacco’s artwork is unique and eye-catching, meticulous and quirky. The images are worth the price alone. A must-read.

The Truth behind all the Pain ..
This is probably the best book out there that’ll make you understand what you never understood before , A true Graphic novel that captured what other artists haven’t .. 1010 You can’t live without reading this, Just give it a chance .. You wont be the same .

    A real achievement.
I’d just like to echo what so many other reviewers have said - such as how people will gain a deeper understanding of the Palestinian’s struggle, and that we should buy two copies of “Palestine” and give one away. I actually bought an additional copy that’s in Spanish and sent it to a library in Mexico.

The way Joe Sacco describes life and his own experience in the Occupied Territories is captivating, and the drawings are fantastic.

When he came out with this graphic novel, there were very few voices who would dare to say something sympathetic toward Palestinians. Now, with books like Jimmy Carter’s “Palestine: Peace not Apartheid” and the work of Noam Chomsky reaching a global audience, Sacco’s compassion is more mainstream.

For analysis of how the Palestinian’s struggle was mischaracterized for so long, I’d suggest the DVD “Peace, Propaganda, and the Promised Land.”

And for people who are interested in the “graphic” novel format, I’d also highly recommend “Wobblies!: A Graphic History of the Industrial Workers of the World” edited by Paul Buhle and Nicole Schulman.

    Customer Reviews:
    Excellent product.
I love Melissan & Doug products! Extremely durable. Vibrant colors. Solid build. I loved it so much I bought 3 different ones. A much better investment than cardboard puzzles. Buy it!

    Great puzzles
My daughter is 2 1/2 yrs old and loves these puzzles. She does them over and over again. The wood backed pieces make them more durable than cardboard puzzles - and they are great for spatial reasoning.

Great picture but hard to manipulate the pieces
We have a couple other M&D puzzles with fewer, larger pieces. The 48 piece ones we got here are by nature of their smaller piece to thickness ratio, harder to take apart and fit together. I’m hoping it gets easier and we’re able to sort of break it in. Overall, great M&D quality, as always

    Space Bumper Cars
You could hear the laughter of the kids from miles around as they enjoyed this toy. And we couldn’t wait until they went to bed to try it! The remote control Space Bumper Cars were perfect for our 5 and 4 year old. The cars could speed over floors as well as carpet. It takes a while to understand the remote but it didn’t stop the kids from having a blast.

    Great Fun Toy
This is a really great and fun toy. My kids love it and keep playing with it. Even after Christmas, this is one they come back too many times.

Even adults will enjoy this toy and play it with their child!

    Best of The Stylistics
Straight Classic 70’s R&B. No need to add anything. Must have if you love 70’s R&B.

    Oldie but goodie
This compilation of the best songs of the stylistics was really great. It brought back alot of old memories.

The Very best of the Stylistics
The cd captures the all the great songs of the group, as well as ones I recently heard. The sound quality was excellent.

Their Harmony Is Unbelievable: Musical Ecstasy
I am maninly a rap fanatic, and I am mad young, and I ain’t gone front, I know litle about this great soul group, but I will say this, this collective has some great 70’s soul jams with great vocals and sweet hooks and smooth jams. Fans of Delfonics and similar groups who have not yet checked the Stylistics out should. Russel Thompkins Jr.’s mountain high falsetto is cool. “You Are Everything” is one of the best songs I have ever heard. I love how songs like this build up to a musical and vocal climax from the beginning of each verse to the wonderfully harmonic choruses. I love the simple lyrics of the song, and how deep the emotions are behind them. It is such a beautiful song. This jam along with “You Make Me Feel Brand New (my close 2nd fav here) really captivate the soul. I would like to experience the emotions the singers and writers had while creating these classics. “People Make The World Go Round” is a cool jam dealing with social issues in society. “Break Up To Make Up” is a little sadder and slower and as emotionally rich as any other here. It analyzes a rocky relationship with sweet yet somber vocals. I would have loved to grow up in a musical era with such rich songs. I love the airy chorus of “Betcha By Golly Wow” and “Stone In Love With You” and the breezy, sweet vibes they give off. “You’re A Big Girl Now” is a bit upbeat and funky adressing a love interest coming of age. For some reason to me, this joint sounds cool for lowriding. If you like slower soul jams with breathtaking heavenly vocals and instruments, then this Stylistics collective has all the cool slow jams to evoke those feelings for ya boo. These songs all have a magical feel to them and define real soul music. Anyone going retro like me and exploring older soul should start with groups like The Stylistics.

    beautiful music out of philly
this is how it should be done! great voices, famous songs, classic philly sound. young singers take notes and get in line to learn how to bring it. later
